Massachusetts health officials announced another 10 coronavirus deaths on Monday, bringing the statewide death toll to 8,427.
Officials also confirmed another 165 cases of the virus, for a total of at least 110,595 statewide. Thats based on 12,278 new molecular tests reported on Monday, according to the Department of Public Health.
There are currently 375 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Massachusetts, according to DPH. Thats down from 406 yesterday and following two days of rising numbers of hospitalizations.
Officials also reported 34 probable cases of the virus on Monday, for a total now of at least 8,062 probable cases.
As of Monday, there are roughly 4,649,102 cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. and 154,471 documented deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The latest numbers come as Massachusetts is seeing a slight increase in infections, which state officials believe to be tied to small clusters caused by parties and instances of people ignoring the mask mandate, or not properly social distancing.
The data also comes two days after Gov. Charlie Bakers travel order took effect, requiring that visitors from states designated as COVID-19 hotspots must quarantine for 14 days before entering Massachusetts if they cannot produce a negative coronavirus test, or face a $500 fine each day.
The number of COVID-19 cases at Baystate Medical Center tied to last weeks outbreak has increased to more at least 55, hospital officials said Monday. Baystate Health has since strengthened its rules for mask-wearing and distancing and reconfigured some indoor spaces after hospital officials traced a cluster of new cases there to a single employee who had been to a COVID-19 hotspot state.
Ten Falmouth lifeguards have also tested positive for the coronavirus after several of them had attended a recent party, Town Manager Julian Suso said on Monday.
