Deir Ezzor (Syria News) Warplanes belonging to the US-led international coalition have carried out an air strike targeting Syrian army forces in Deir Ezzor, Enab Baladi News reported on Thursday.

The air strike was conducted early on Thursday, and resulted in the killing of 100 fighters of the Syrian Regime Army, east of the Euphrates River.

An informed official explained that the air strike was carried out as a response to an attack launched by Assad forces (regime forces) on the headquarters of the Syrian Democratic Forces in Deir Ezzor; however, Syrian regime did not issue any statement regarding the US air strike on Deir Ezzor.

Meanwhile, Moscow has described the US attack against the Syrian regime forces in Deir Ezzor as an “aggression”, while called the US actions a violation to the legal conventions. The US-led international coalition also released a statement saying that the attack by Assad forces on the Kurdish forces is unjustified.

It is noteworthy that the United States is backing the Kurdish factions in their war against the Islamic State group in Deir Ezzor, in an attempt to drive out the radical militia from the eastern banks of the Euphrates River. On the other hand, Russia is backing the Syrian regime and its allied Iranian militias against ISIS, south of Deir Ezzor.
