(Syria News) The Ministry of Defense of the Syrian Interim Government has announced the formation of the “Syrian National Army”, based on the agreement signed between the factions of the Free Syrian Army earlier.
Enab Baladi News reported, today, that the Syrian Interim Government – the alternative government of the Syrian opposition – announced forming the “Syrian National Army” that gathers all factions of the Free Syrian Army.
The announcement came after a meeting between the military leaders of the different factions stationed in the northern and eastern countryside of Aleppo.
In October 2017, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) faction signed an agreement, in the attendance of interim government representatives, to form a national army, belonging to the Ministry of Defense.
The newly-formed National Army consists of three legions, which in turn subdivided into several brigades.
The army was formed due to the fragmentation experienced by the factions of the Free Syrian Army and the international agreements that are imposed on different areas of Syria, as well as the tension experienced in the northern areas of Syria in the province of Idlib.
It is noteworthy that the Syrian Interim Government is an alternative government, which has been formed by the Syrian opposition, while it is indirectly controlling some areas of Syria. It also claims to be the sole legitimate government in Syria and takes the city of Azaz as a headquarters in Syria.
