US soldier killed in helicopter crash on Iraqi-Syrian border

(Syria News) The US-led coalition announced, on Monday, that an American soldier was killed in a helicopter crash, near the Iraqi-Syrian border.

In a statement published, today, the international coalition revealed that the incident took place yesterday while the helicopter was in a mission against the Islamic State militants in the area.

A soldier was killed, while three others were injured in the crash, the statement added. The soldier body was pulled out while the wounded were transferred to the hospital to receive the needed and immediate treatment.

The statement did not mention the area where the incident took place; however, the Russian news agency “Sputnik” stated that the helicopter crashed in the area of Qaim, in the Iraqi province of Anbar, near the Syrian border.

Meanwhile, media outlets reported that the incident took place due to unidentified hostile fire; however, the international coalition command said in the statement that the incident is still under investigation.

It is noteworthy that the US-led international coalition is carrying out several offensives against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq since 2014.
