Damascus (Syria News) The United Nations revealed that thousands of Syrian children were either killed or wounded during the armed conflict in Syria since 2013, Enab Baladi News reported on Saturday.
During the UN Security Council session, last Friday, UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, said that the United Nations documented over 1200 violation cases against children in Syria, pointing out that the violations included the killing and mutilation of more than 600 children, as well as recruiting over 180 others by the fighting parties in Syria.
Meanwhile, human rights organizations estimated that violations against children in Syria by greater numbers, where the Syrian Network for Human Rights documented the killing of more than 27,000 children in Syria since 2011.
The United Nations estimated that 5.3 million Syrian children are in need for humanitarian aid, and pointed out that the number of the Syrian children refugees reached two million children, while the IDP children reached 2.5 million.
The UN representative also revealed that the first quarter of 2018 witnessed an increase of 348% in the rate of killing and mutilation against children, as well as a 25% increase in children recruitment and 109% in serious violations against young people.
It is noteworthy that the United Nations is facing difficulties in delivering essential aid to the Syrian children in conflict areas, as well as risks of exploitation and violence, including early labor, children recruitment and early marriage.
